Conference Speakers
Brian Gibbons
Born and raised in Blackburn - and one of six children - Brian Gibbons quickly learned that "all things come to those who wait, but only what's left by those who hustle". After graduating from Loughborough University he spent 12 years teaching physical education before deciding there was more to life than playing with balls and waiting for bells to ring. After experimenting with various business ventures, he set up Focus Training in 1991. Frustrated by the lack of clarity in management and being a great believer in the K.I.S.S. Principle, he wrote K.I.S.S.`N`T.E.L.L: Insights for a 21st Century Manager. His second book, Natural Born Heroes, is due to be published soon and by popular demand he’s back at Manchester where he will be presenting ‘Raising the Bar - Tired of being Average?’
Bev Yates
Bev Yates from Asset Skills Cleaning Board will be outlining the work of the Council and in particular will be discussing the Pathway Card, the skills passport scheme for the UK cleaning industry introduced in September 2005. The Pathway Card allows those employed in the industry to record their skills, qualifications and experience onto an electronic card, and employers to view this information online to verify competence and fitness for work.
Eric Brown
Eric Brown is Managing Director of Cleaning Research International and has been involved in research and consultancy for the cleaning industry for thirty years. During that time he was responsible for a number of research projects looking at fundamental aspects of soiling and cleaning. Cleaning Research International specialise particularly in the preparation of cleaning specifications, tender evaluation and auditing cleaning standards.
Cleaning under the Microscope is concerned with both these aspects. In the first part of his presentation he will be discussing some of the research findings relating to the build up of soil in carpets and on hard surfaces. He will then go on to discuss several case histories relating to the audit of cleaning performance with particular reference to absenteeism and non-delivery.
